About the Barefoot Mailman

Behind the mic is me, Claudia Poblete, a 50 something first generation American Cuban Gen Xer with two daughters, 2 cats, 2 marriages, and buttload of dumb things I’ve done-some regrettable, some not. I have lived a lifetime paved with good and bad times, and several great ones. When you join me on this journey, I aim to tell you as many of them as possible.

Currently, I’m an entrepreneur, artist, real estate agent, notary public, and wedding officiant in central Indiana.

The Barefoot Mailman name stems from my ties to Florida.

The story of the barefoot mailmen begins during Florida’s pioneer era, where these guys delivered mail by walking up and down the beach shore from outpost to outpost. It wasn’t until a book was written in the 40’s that they earned the name of the Barefoot Mailmen. The book itself tells the story of Steven Pierton, a young man who takes the mail route between Palm Beach and Miami in the 1880s. With no roads or waterways most of the way, he walks most of the distance barefoot on the beach. Along the way he meets a cast of characters(because Florida man has always been a thing) caught up in the struggles of pioneer life in southeast Florida.

In the 70’s, there was a store in malls all over South Florida akin to what is now Spencer’s gift shop. A hippie enclave full of funny shot glasses, novelties, sex toys, and weed paraphernalia.

And this is what this podcast is all about: weird people, humor, life, commentary, and the personal journey that has landed me here. Why me? Why not? Why anyone else? Why not you? I promise to deliver truths about life in a sensible and not totally crazy way(ok maybe a little crazy), and poking fun at everything in the process. You should have a thick skin and a good sense of humor because I do not sugarcoat shit.

This blog and podcast are homage to them and to anyone who is coasting through life on their own vibe amidst the seemingly nutty world. You can buy the fictional novel inspired by the original Barefoot Mailmen by clicking this link, which will take you to Amazon. I may make a small commission if you choose to purchase it, but it is not mandatory to participate with me via this website or podcast.
